Implant-Supported Crowns

If you are missing a tooth, it doesn't go unnoticed. When you eat you are reminded. When you brush your teeth you are reminded. Dr. James Slaman can put all that behind you with an implant crown, a natural-looking restoration supported by a dental implant. Dr. Slaman, a distinguished restorative dentist in Albuquerque, NM, uses the latest technology to restore your tooth and your peace of mind.

Restore Function and Aesthetics with Implant Crowns Why Are Implants the Preferred Solution?

Dental implants are a landmark advancement in dentistry and dentists' preferred solution for missing teeth. In addition to filling the gap in your smile, implants also help preserve the natural bone in your jaw.

Implants are able to preserve bone because they are embedded in the jaw and mimic the stimulation that a natural root once gave with daily activities such as eating.

Dental implants also offer a secure foundation for restorations, from a single crown to dentures for a full set of teeth.

What to Expect During Treatment for a Missing Tooth

During an initial consultation, Dr. Slaman will let you know if a dental implant is the right treatment option for you.

Treatment itself ranges from between four and 12 months, which allows time for the bone to grow around the implant, securing it in place.

Dr. Slaman uses the latest technology at his practice in Albuquerque, NM, so that he can attain the precise, predictable results his patients expect.

Implant-supported restorations offer cosmetic and functional advantages, including a healthier bite, a more attractive smile, and superior durability.

Treatment Planning

The most important step is the planning phase. During an initial consultation, Dr. Slaman assesses the health of your teeth and gums and uses a GALILEOS® ComfortPLUS cone beam scanner to evaluate your jawbone.

Preparation

Some dental patients may need to increase the amount of bone in the implant area with a bone graft or sinus lift. These procedures typically require four to six months of healing before the dental implant can be placed.

Oral Surgery

A small incision will be made in your gums and the implant will be strategically placed. The dentist typically performs the surgery using oral conscious sedation so that you will be comfortable and relaxed.

Healing and Recovery

Once the dental implant is placed, you will need to heal for about four to six months to allow the bone to fuse with the implant, a process called osseointegration.

Restoration Placement

After the implant is securely attached in the jawbone, you will return for minor dental surgery to uncover the implant under your gums and attach the abutment. There will be a short healing period before you return and Dr. Slaman places your custom-made crown.

Are There Other Options?

Dental bridges are another option to replace missing teeth. However, this method requires reducing and reshaping teeth on either side of the gap so that they can support crowns. The crowns then support a prosthetic tooth.

A traditional dental bridge restores your bite, but because it is not attached to the jawbone, it can't prevent bone recession

In contrast, an implant crown doesn't require dental work on neighboring teeth and its artificial root will prevent bone atrophy. It's a one-tooth solution to a one-tooth problem.

Are You Missing Multiple Teeth
or Do Your Dentures Slip?

Dr. Slaman's dental practice in Albuquerque, NM, also offers implant-supported bridges and dentures to securely restore your bite and your smile. We can meet virtually any need at our practice.
